PLace it in direct sunlight for three days. Have three different masks that are labeled A,B, and C. UV sterilize after each use. This will give you enough masks to leave the house a couple of times a week, which is more than you should be going out right now.

I read that you can sanitize them by heating in the oven at 165 degrees for 30 minutes, much like pasteurizing milk or questionable water. I haven't tried it yet to see if anything melts.

I also have a P100 mask but I have to wear my N95d at work and I only have two. I'd prefer my P100 but I don't think they'll allow that at work

autoclaving, pressure cooking, wet microwaving in a closed environment would perhaps be better, but dealing with drying and keeping it sterile is probably a lot more unecessary work for the little benefit

under absolute ideal circumstances it can last about a month and stay infectious (well probably many years longer) but in all realistic cases it's unlikely to survive for days or even many hours

I just use a surgical mask covered by a bandana. There have been studies showing that surgical masks are just as effective as N95 masks in preventing respiratory infections. I think that's because while N95 masks have better virus filtration it's hard to maintain a tight seal around the mouth and nose while wearing it for a long time.

I wouldn't know, any type of face mask is completely sold out. In Asia you can just buy them from a convenience store, they even come with over the counter medicines. The west is barbaric in comparison, you can only get them online, and the only ones available are just scams.

My hospital handed me a few surgical masks for free when I had my physical back in january. Why shouldn't I use those masks now? I can't give them back because the hospital only accepts mask donations if they're still sealed in the original packaging.

I had 50 when this all started, but I gave away ~10 to father in law and a good friend. I was reusing a couple myself maybe a month ago but now since the shit has showed up in my county I only go out with my gas mask with 3M- P3 filter. I have enough spare filters to last a few years if need be. I don't even really have to go out at all, but I like having sour cream and a few other perishables I can't at the moment produce myself. Also the thermostat on my stove is on the fritz so I may have to pick one up at the local appliance repair store.
