the problem with "herd immunity" is the timeframe from 0 to 100%. If you try to compress it down to a couple weeks or a month, then all the severe cases are going to happen at once, and with a 2% fatality rate, you're essentially condemning a few millions to death without medical care, because there aren't millions of beds or doctors/nurses to keep all those people allive, much less do so while taking care of all the other medical problems that exist normally.
