I went on a Mad Men binge starting about a month ago so I got interested in whisky old fashioneds. Tried Woodfords, Winchester, Knob Creek, Old Parr, Canadian Club, prefer Jim Beam in an old fashioned. Haven't tried Buffalo Trace yet, next time shopping, but mid-tier stuff like Beam seems better for mixing than top shelf sipping whisky or cheap stuff like Seagrams 7, C Club, or Ancient Age.

Beam is too sweet to add more sugar imo. Knob Creek is great for an old fashioned.

At my job that I don't have anymore we used Makers 46 and blackstrap bitters. It was a very good old fashioned. Funny thing is the barback batched it and we just poured it into the glass and added bitters. Mindless work and customers would always rave about it being the best old-fashioned they had.

Knob Creek is actually made by Beam, same flavor profile, just more dense. Beam is a good cheap mixer, Knob is for sipping neat or on ice.

Beam owns a lot of whiskey and most of the popular whiskies are consolidated under a few umbrellas. I do not agree that the flavor profile is similar.

Alcohol is my favorite drug. Has the warmth, the absence of caring about things, you can get as far out there as you want to go and it's upfront about the price you pay for it.

Molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, oak. Basic bourbon flavor, to me. All different but all the same.

It's funny because I haven't drank in over 7 years and for some reason (probably sexual) the old lady bought me a 22 oz of coors light tonight. I took one drink but I've kinda lost my taste for booze and marijuana and get a much better high off of sadism anymore.

Yes you do have a point. I just don't really like Jim Beam, more bite and nuance in the Knob Creek.

My personal favorite bourbon I got turned onto working at a whiskey bar was Weller 12 year. Same barrel as Pappy Van Winkle 12 year and the taste is honestly comparable. I'm not really a collector so I don't know where you'd go about finding a bottle but it can be found a lot cheaper than Pappy and is well worth trying.

I am drinking craft beer after a couple small glasses of cognac.
That is some good scotch, but I prefer Islay peaty flavors. Still not bad for a single malt. I just like Islay much better.
Luckily I don't have too much of a taste for scotch, otherwise I would be handing my boss my entire paycheck.
