As far as i know David Paulides doesn't claim anything but that there is a massive issue with missing people in the national parks of the US.

Caves and mountains. Death from the elements, improper gear, improper skill, etc. Many people fail to realize most caves aren't those big caverns you can jump around in but are scary random crevices of varying materials and composition. Then you add in that a lot of them have water flowing through them at very strong currents rivaling that of oceans and many just go missing and are never found. Sure some of them may be living innawoods and surviving but most people simply can't survive the wilderness without proper shelter.
