One of the worst things someone can do at a time like this is be humane and let emotions cloud their thoughts. We need to be pragmatic, logical, and methodical about this. Reason and rationale are more important than feelings. What one needs to realize is the majority who will die of this are not contributing to the economy - the elderly, the infirm and the invalid. Should we suffer a second great depression just to keep leeches alive on the lifeblood of the American worker? No. What we should do is open everything up, save nursing homes and hospices. Allow them teleconference technology in order to keep in touch with loved ones, or let those who may perhaps have none converse with wiling strangers online. Use private industry to mass produce masks, medicine, and machines. Require those who receive treatment do so in a hospital setting as so a drug-resistant strain does not emerge, under penalty of fines and imprisonment. And above all else, buy American.
