Bare shelves at the grocery store are disturbing until you remember that the sheer abundance and variety of food products available in a typical modern grocery store are the freakish outliers.
A system that literally wasted 1/3rd (40+ billion tons) of food each year, not to mention the food that was thrown out after purchase by people who bought it.
We're at the point in the crisis where you'll stop seeing 14 varieties of organic gluten-free microwave vegan risotto, not yet at the part where we can't get enough calories on the shelves to keep people fed.
Anything could happen over the next couple of months, but I think worries about workers not being able to handle food are overblown. For one thing, guys mine coal and log and go into battle for a paycheck; people are going to risk a *coof* if it means they can make money for their families, especially with unemployment skyrocketing.
If it starts to get really bad, they'll ration food and take military control over supply chains before famine kicks in.
That being said, I have a couple of months of food set aside and think anybody who doesn't is an idiot.

That's not the case in my area. I've been going to walmart every day to look for certain things. Trying to stock up before they start limiting the store to 100 occupants at a time (which is coming soon.. they were setting up for it yesterday). TP hasn't been available in any form since last week, when they had about 5% of the aisle stocked. Almost all fresh meat has been consistently sold out, except for some fish, and ham steaks.
