I haven't been able to finish it yet, I restarted when I got to Saint Denis because I skipped a ton of stuff, I was just burning through the story missions.

If you buy the right stuff, you can fast travel to any place you've been from your camp. I can't remember right now but I think you can get a field camp kit that let's you do so like in the first one so you can fast travel from anywhere. The map is indeed big, but it only takes about twice as long as rdr 1 to cross, and that took about 12 minutes end to end. However the entire rdr1 map is added at the end
