I read the WaPo story. It's a completely bizarre article that doesn't seem to have a point. Fauci himself was out there Sunday stating 100k-200k deaths, and in this article he's telling people that you can't really rely on the models for anything.
The main drive seems to be that there hasn't been a long-term strategy unveiled yet (which Trump obviously does not want to do because he intends to remain flexible at the Federal level) and these fuckers can't figure out a way to sabotage the economy for longer without that knowledge.
