Its the same as milk. How can a gallon of milk be cheaper than gas, when it takes gas to power the truck that delivers the gallons of milk or water?
The logic behind subsidizing shale is that mid east oil will run out or be cost prohibitive to pump in the coming decades, so wed better have a backup ready, and that means having the infrastructure set up and all the kinks sorted out before we are fully reliant on it
