Even though I'm not here to defend the particular usage of any symbols, I would clarify by positing that in the west, owls are most commonly associated with Athena or Selene and thus wisdom. That isn't to say there aren't other usages, but the onus for such a claim would be on those pushing it.
Same with if someone was claiming that there was some star of remphan, but it was actually moloch, and it was actually an owl, and it was actually on some tabernacle. They'd be retarded to not show proof for their beliefs.
