It was born out of a wet market, where animals are stacked on top of each other making for a perfect setting for a virus to emerge. It's not really that complicated. Bats are the only mammals that can fly and as a result they require a fuck ton of energy to achieve flight, which essentially stresses their cellular respiratory system to the point where they are constantly generating viruses, but their immune system has measures to control for that, unlike humans.
Once a virus makes a jump from animals to humans, we are kind of fucked. That's the price of eating meat: the amount of animals that are required essentially make it almost certain these diseases are spawned every few years and humans can't seem to understand.
The Negative:
My theory is that we're going into some deep shit and you're probably looking at a global depression the likes of which haven't been since the 1930's. Governments will be forced to take care of citizens and you're going to see a massive expansion of governments around the world. You're also probably looking at a massive chill in US/China relations, which will heat up. I have a theory India will be hard hit by this thing and the death toll will be dizzying.
The Positive:
The only thing I hope is that the West gets its shit together and create a collective strategy in dealing with China in the future, which I think will happen. Companies will probably relocate to India/Africa/South America because of how risky doing business with China is.
