I deployed to the former Yugoslavia from 1998 to 2001 (Not continuously, but damned close). I met a lot of interesting people and they were eager to share their stories about that war. Even the girls could identify the caliber of mortar from the marks on buildings/roads/etc. Learned a lot about apocalyptic conditions from those folks. This one dude I used to play Unreal Tournament with had a 60mm mortar that he would take out with a couple of rounds and he would slam Serbian tanks with them. There is no way to manage this without declaring your own nation with your own set of laws on your own sovereign soil. All that it takes is two people there to have an argument, one person to solve the problem and now you've got government up your ass. You can't solve anything yourself, you're always abiding by the government rules. Imminent domain, for instance. No one is going to die defending that, and if they do, then the gov has all of the argument it needs to shut it down with fire.
Step back for a second - do you not pay taxes to the government to protect you from internal and external threats, to enforce a system of fair trade, to provide a safety net of food, etc? If this does work, then tell me, why does paying 30k a year in taxes and having a fully functional government not accomplish the exact same thing?
