My small business has been essentially stopped for now, I applied for the $10,000 CARES Act grant, and just got a retail job to hold me over. Wife’s business is essential so she’s making her regular income. We’ve been saving cash for a house in a high yield saving account so we have literally years of rent and expenses on hand.

Been working there for ten years, never got laid off or fired before and they treated us well, looking for new job in case situation gets worse but about every company has a hiring freeze, wtf am I supposed to do now other than complain on the internet?

I fell for the life sciences meme. Got a degree and PhD in microbiology. Competition is intense for shitty lab jobs. Finally got a job after working at home depot with a PhD for 6 months. Worked that shitty job for 4 years and pivoted to lab robotics repair. Pays 20K more than I was making using my PhD. I could have got this job with 2 years technical school training.

Not if you are decent at repairing things. People freak out when they see a check engine light. Very often it is just a loose vacuum line, bad sensor, or some under $200 fix.
You can get a steal on civics and corollas with broken timing belts. Common knowledge is that broken timing belt junks the engine. But on "non interference" engines like many civics and corollas had over the past decades the valves and pistons never overlap so breaking the timing belt hurts nothing. Buy the car and talknthem down saying the engine is ruined, install new belt, and drive it for 5 more years. Just continually search forums amd craigslist for "broken timing belt".

Got laid off last week. Unemployment offices in my state are so overloaded you literally can't call in to wait for an hour on hold. I'll be alright for April but come May I'll probably have to sell my car to make ends meet

Yeah I got laid off about 2 weeks ago. I am corporate (marketing) for a large restaurant chain. Got my first unemployment direct deposit yesterday. I haven't seen that $600 bump I have heard so much about tho.
