Here is what they aren't explicitly telling you: The mortality rate is closer to 40-50%.
You're comparing "Infected" and "Deaths". That's incorrect. The correct indicator is a measurement against the end-point results, and those are "Recovered" or "Death".
A rolling measurement of Infected -> End_State is what gives you an estimate on how long it takes to reach an end state. That's around 2-3 weeks, average.
In America, roughly 8K End_State have been reached, and the distribution is ~3K Recovered, and 5K Death.
I suspect this is what China was trying desperately to cover up.
