That people should be free and responsible for themselves. For example, I carry a weapon (legally). I'd rather have anybody else carry one as well than give up mine, because I trust myself more than anybody else.
That nobody is perfect. To stay with the weapon example, if any weapon were to be disposed of, everybody would be saved. However, I know how easy it is to build weapons - for example, a sten gun can be build from hardware-store parts - so I wouldn't trust that all weapons are removed and try to keep mine as well.

For example, most people will cite any random scientific paper they can find to support their claim, without understanding research methodology and what makes for good research. If more people understood research methodology, they'd be more capable in finding where and when research is of poor quality.

Among those just mentioned there are many views circulating here which starkly contrast with mainsteam opinion, but only make sense considering history and applying logic while disregarding people's frail sentimentalities. One is that current western, especially American, civilisation is in the age of decadence, as propositioned by Glubb. Characteristics for this phase in society are, among others, an obsession with sex, money, and the desire to elevate those of lesser aptitude to a higher state of being, a ridiculous undertaking given how one's basis for competence is largely resistant to change. People on this board often chear for society's downfall, because they have grown sick of the degeneracy and want to usher in the new cycle of western civilisation.
What led me to my opinions are using an independant mind capable of critical thinking and listening to those whose statements make sense and seem congruent with reality, rather than a false ideal. I think effectively censoring the truth is much more evil than being upfront with it because one's/society's long term development should be prioritised above their momentarily emotional wellbeing. This is probably not John Green, but here is a serious answer: We believe that race is a biological phenomenon, and not an optical illusion. It might be partially "socially constructed" in the sense that race is closely tied to culture, but that is not a bad thing, and not worth "deconstructing." We believe that every racial or ethnic group deserves its own society where they are the recognized majority, and their culture, history and heritage is dominant. This worldview does not necessitate violence. There can be a peaceful separation. Even now, most people prefer to associate with people like themselves. That's why 90% of church congregations in the US are at least 80% one race, and many are 100% one race. Even self-proclaimed liberals and cosmopolitans tend to live in majority white communities, and they send their children to majority white schools. If there are any government policies that we advocate for, it would be these: halting most if not all immigration (at least from majority non-white countries), and allowing complete freedom of association. The government needs to get out of the business of diversity, and they should allow individuals to discriminate for good reason, bad reason or no reason at all.
