Rock music is incredibly stale right now. To the point where rock musicians have to burrow from other genres.

I remember when I was in high school and some kids were into rock, others into metal, others into pop, others into local music, others into electronic music.

But nowadays it seems like most kids are into shitty rap or hip-hop. I truly don't know what changed.

It was mathematically inevitable for rap to win when the studio came to the bedroom. But now that bedroom production is the norm, a new wave of "Instagram guitar" style music is arriving, and becoming mass-produced. Soon the really innovative nogs will drop out of rap altogether and leave that to the old niggers, similarly to how rock was left to the older whites.

It actually did evolve from that it's just that the regular person doesn't care about truly good music. The last great period of rock was the 90s. Phish was a huge band back then that was still under the radar. This is an evolution of rock music but you have to be above average IQ to appreciate it. It's easy and cheap to make. It's easier to make a tune primarily based on rhythm instead of melody, and anyone can do it. You don't need to fly over a band and their instruments, you don't need weeks or months of writing and rehearsing a song. As long as the beats is catchy and the performer either "sexy" or "provocative", the majority of teenagers (the audience that spends the most money on music in general) will like it.
