According to Jacques de Vitry, french, 1180 – 1240 these were the stereotypes of european “nationes” in the University of Paris
>Germans are thieves and pimps >English are drunkards and cowards >French are proud and effeminate >Bretons fickle and undecided >Those from Poitiers traitorous and “courtiers of fortune” >Burgundians are coarse and foolish >Lombards are miserly and mischievous >Romans are seditious and violent >Sicilians tyrannical and cruel >Normans fatuous and proud >Flemish prodigals and gluttons >Brabantins arsonists and thieves
Italian stereotypes are pretty accurate even for modern day standards, what about the others?
English are surely drunkards but I wouldn't define them as cowards, actually. Maybe they were, 1000 years ago.
Christian Collins
Impossible to argue against our drunken tag, but cowards? Not sure where that came from. We take a fair amount of pushing but once we eventually snap, you're fucked.
Bentley Brown
>pretty accurate even for modern day standards
Modern version: > Germans are rapists and murderers > English are rapists and murderers > French are rapists and murderers
Sounds correct for most of France, England and Germany. Modern examples: England fleeing at Dunkirk after doing *NOTHING* (never trust an anglo), Germans lying, massive scale lies actually, about diesel and coronavirus.
He means us, from Normandy. It's definitely true on the proud part, fatuous I'm not so sure. People here have a simple-minded down to earth philosophy which is maybe close to what he could have meant.

I'm not white, I'm italian, I'm allowed to fuck them

At the time the English were using raiding tactics in warfare and avoided direct engagement hence the reputation for cowardice.

>Romans are seditious and violent.
Makes a lot of sense for Byzantine Greeks.
Grayson Torres
The French uses the expression "filer à l'anglaise" to denote cowardice. That's because English battle tactics of the time were considered cowardly. Mind you this was just a hundred years after being conquered by the plantagenet so the behavior of the Saxons rebels really shaped the perception of the French speaking plantagenets and that perception spread to the continent. That perception would only be reinforced during the hundred years war due to the hit and run tactics employed by the English.

But what if you're lactose intolerant?

>>English are drunkards and cowards >>French are proud and effeminate
i dont see the problem. they were spot on
Justin Miller
Romans meant real romans, people from Rome, not Byzantine Greeks, Byzantine greeks were called greeks and weren't europeans.
Oliver Nguyen
I mean they handed over Ireland to the celts because a few cars exploded, that's pretty cowardly.
Joshua Lee
Plus it's France. They thought Crecy and Agincourt were cheating because longbowmen shot their knights instead of standing there to be chopped up like good little peasants. It's not like it's an entirely unbiased source.
Landon Roberts
Yes they were Europeans and they called themselves romans until the 19th century. I really assumed he meant Byzantine Greeks but it is true that western europeans referred to the Byzantines as the Greek Empire
Ryder Morgan
>a few cars exploded >1922 Wat
Christian Nguyen
you shouldn't be so butthurt, they are just stereotypes
Luke Brooks
they called themselves romans but everybody outside greece called them greeks, and no, "europe" meant western christianity.

>Brabantins arsonists and thieves But why? t. Brabantin
Jacob Fisher
well you were pretty underdeveloped barbarians in those times, I think. I can talk for the italians: we lombard were the richer of europe, so it's easy to understand why we were called like that. Romans are even today very seditious and violent, everytime they open their mouth speaking their disgusting dialect, if they scream, they are basically gonna punch you in the face by default. Sicilians are cruel, well. YES.
Tyler Adams
>French are proud and effeminate
still valid today kek
Luis Wright
dude wtf are you retarded we're talking about year 1200
