The reality is that the information on this thing was lacking, and still is, and nobody was ready to deal with it due to any recent preparations. We get most of our medical equipment, including PPE, from China. We're currently relying on private businesses that don't make them to begin manufacturing these things now that there's widespread seriousness about it. And to bridge the gap using almost unprecedented federal power. Good luck declaring a national emergency, getting congress to give the funds, getting private manufacturers to make PPE, getting the scientific and bio community to work on treatments etc etc back in January. It's a completely delusional sentiment to hold, and I can't help but notice that nobody is saying that Canada, Spain, Italy, Australia, Germany, France, or the UK should have predicted all of this.
