Yeah I was at an emergency room in NY recently. Know a couple things and think it over.
1. Absolutely no one is going to a hospital if they can avoid it. If whatever your problem is has a smaller chance of killing you than covid, you don’t go. So they’re not very packed.
2. Anyone who even looks like they’re infected is quarantined. They’re not pissing about in the lobby. And those who present with other problems are quickly attended to and asked to leave asap.
So yeah the lobbies are empty on purpose. Go ahead and take a day trip to your local hospital. You won’t, because you fear infection, which is point one. But the police officers who stop you at the door and ask you risk questions before entry should explain the rest. They’ll even require you to use a rear or side door if you’re probably k-k-koron’d.
They’re anywhere but ICU. They have their own unit. ICU is for its usual purposes or for people with weak immune systems specifically to keep them away from corona.

For fucks sake, people get tested before they go to the hospital. There's at-home testing, drive-through testing, manual testing, etc. If they show minimal symptoms, they usually stay home. Then IF your symptoms are bad enough you go to the hospital.

There was like 6 empty beds on my ward today, first time I've seen beds not get filled before the end of my shift. There have been rumours that it's going to be turned into a Corona-Chan ward but we haven't had any cases yet, just a few possible cases that turned out to be negative. I reckon people are just too scared to go to hospital because they'll pick it up off someone who does have it, we have signs up everywhere telling visitors to fuck off.
here in europe the hospitals canceled all the appointments in the out patient clinics and also the surgeries. only emergency and urgent treatments are done in order to keep resources reserved for corona patients. this keeps the hospitals pretty empty.
we do not have a big wave of infected people because everyone is on lockdown.
