/etm/ - EARTH TO MARS: tfw must escape earth *Editiob

“You want to wake up in the morning and think the future is going to be great - and that's what being a spacefaring civilization is all about. It's about believing in the future and thinking that the future will be better than the past. And I can't think of anything more exciting than going out there and being among the stars.”
— ELON MUSK, SPACEX

Welcome to /etm/. This is a place on Yas Forums to discuss everything space related(with a concentration on Mars). I normally post the general once a week every saturday between 8pm to 10pm UK time.

Mars is a red herring. Space trade is the future.

Earth is flat and Musk is a stupid puppet who knows ANYTHING about engineering he's a fucking weeb actor

As in asteroid mining? Because a mars outpost would be the big test on long term survivability of anything space related. We wont be able to do asteroid mining effectively if we cant set up some martian infrastructure

this can be my emergency broadcast post for anyone loyal to /etm/
all banter aside if for some reason i stop making this general, everything needed to carry it on can be found in more recent threads like this one (just use 4plebs) and here archive.4plebs.org/pol/thread/217125295/ (if you scroll down to 21:57:07 you can see i started dumping old OPs and stuff)

Tfw kerbalnaut but believe there is some kind of truth to "the dome" aswell.
The money will be in asteroid mining, Mars is interesting but hard to land on because low atmo. I personally doubt we will be colonizing any time soon without electrogravity classified tech.

If the flat folk are not correct, lets for the sake of argument assume it is possible to visit other places in the one verse and that NASA are 100% legit and the vector symbology is just a coincidence.

(i'll bump this for visibility)

I genuinely would go if they wanted generic warm bodies

There are bigger fish to fry before Mars is a concern. Don't skip levels. We need to clear practical FTL travel stage first.

cringe old OP image from when i first started the general (before it was called /etm/!)

Equatorial Diameter: 6,792 km
Polar Diameter: 6,752 km
Mass: 6.42 x 10^23 kg (10.7% Earth)
Moons: 2 (Phobos & Deimos)
Orbit Distance: 227,943,824 km (1.52 AU)
Orbit Period: 687 days (1.9 years)
Surface Temperature: -153 to 20 °C
First Record: 2nd millennium BC

>There are signs of liquid water on Mars.
For years Mars has been known to have water in the form of ice. The first signs of trickling water are dark stripes or stains on crater wall and cliffs seen in satellite images. Due to Mars’ atmosphere this water would have to be salty to prevent it from freezing or vaporizing.

>Mars is a red herring
>Space trade is the future

These are conflicting statements, surely

Have you got CV? o_o

I don't know. Probably/Hopefully not, but i do feel shit rn. Either way its the best time to make sure someone here knows how to carry on /etm/ if anything happened to me.

Mars has low atmosphere so its hard to land on because aerobreaking is reduced compared to earth
This is why rovers have mostly used crash impact rubber balloon type methods so far, combined with some aerobreaking late burns and automated radar aided landing sequences.

Earth is way easyer to deorbit on apart from the possibility of firey death. Also Mars has more mass than asteroids or a space station so requires more deltaV to leave again it would be smarter to stay on space station or Ceres or something than mars, for early colonization.
The reason they wont is cosmic radiation and for that planets ARE a better option.

Tldr: Mars is tricky because of you fuck up you will die.

>its hard to land on because aerobreaking is reduced compared to earth

right well im assuming all the data compiled on the unmanned missions coming up will aid in getting this right

*if you duck up
Remember Shepard's prayer.

OK OP, have a bump and I hope you feel better

cheers

Establishing ourselves on Mars would aid in successful space trade

A human will never set foot on Mars. Mark my words.

This guy is a scammer...but the mars mission is something the USA need, because the USA , as country, can't be identify itself trough ethnics, ideologies, or culture (because is a young country)...but it identifies itself trough their fates. The USA need its mars mission, and need to do it ALONE, no russians, no chinks, no euros...no women...Because is the way it revive itself, and remind it, as nation, its capabilities, the mars mission is the great monunent that is si badly needed in this times that you, ustaters, are entering in this decadent age. You need your mars mission, and you need to be yours, your alone victory to tell to the rest of the world a big "fuck you"....And that "fuck you" is needed to keep world in order and civilized.
This guy instead, is summoning that annoying and useless nerd romanticism, probably looking for a " diverse" crew and a huge dildo shaped rocked design with a lgbt flag, and gays and niggers...to scam you with a uberoverpriced program, that probably will never get done...
BUT! You need that mission, you ustaters, you need it badly, and has nothing to do with " muh terrafurminhhh" " mah cosmic fate" and all that nerd shit.

Pretty bleak outlook on things

Realistic. The Jews are killing this world. We'll never escape

There's still time

SMOL PP
Venus is clearly for winners.
MARS is poorfag colony for leftists. Go there and stay.

Yeah thats all great apart fro one thing. The human body can't handle space travel. In some people blood flow reverses, in others it stops which causes clots. We need to evolve further in order to leave the planet long term, which we can't do here on Earth. His calculations are correct, his biology isn't

>Venus is clearly for winners.

I'm getting really tired of this larp.

Going to Mars is also a LARP

>clots
I'd assume anticoagulant medication can help with this

The clots are caused because your blood isn't moving

Going to Mars and colonising it is actually possible and makes sense, if you want to larp as Lando Calrissian and go venus in a cloud city (a glorified zeppelin) then go ahead lol

We aren't going anywhere. We are going to die on this rock. Sorry to be the one to break it to you

Well fuck, not everyone who has been to slave has suffered from them so it's just another risk we'll take

Don't even bother replying to me if you are going to be like that. Piss off back to britpol and moan there instead.

>my idea is so perfect it can't withstand any criticism, this is my thread REEEEEEEE
the post

Did you even read the links? No, no you didn't. Because you idea is fucking shit it is see through. I'm not going to play along with your fantasy

...

bump, hello frens

Jews must remain on earth at all costs

Evening OP, hope you don't have the coof. Don't worry I'll save as much as I can. Keep up the great work, lad

Yeah you have a trip, I'm not surprised you know where that thread is. Meanwhile ,nobody has a solution to the problems I provided you with. Easier to hit out like a child than actually think logically

Mars is fake

ooh that is a bit cringe lol

Yeah lol
It's art from Red Faction, I think.

Mars is for commies. You should get in a ship that takes 20 years to get there, then come back, and by that time we'll all be rich and hung on Venus.

>Mars is for commies
No, Mars is for nationalists.
