Even with nukes, China only had about 300 and they're generally very large ICBMs. In a first strike, the US could disable their nuclear arsenal entirely.

The US could pummel coastal china with ordinance and air strikes, but that would just destroy infrastructure, not win the war. However, the Chinese government's position is precarious enough that sustained bombardment might lead to regionalism as wealthy cities attempt to get out from under the American boot by breaking with Beijing and making a deal.
