It was obvious that a war between the Soviets and the Germans was inevitable, they were polar opposites, but stalin had fucked up the Soviet military in the purges, he had killed millions of his own people this weakening them, they had failed to take Finland, but they were rapidly industrialising and replacing their list officers so the window of opportunity was beginning to close.
The Soviets had already invaded Poland, Finland, annexed Tannu Tuva, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bessarabia and they were now massing large amounts of soldiers on the border with Germany.
It was so fucking obvious what was going to happen and Hitler did the only thing he could, he struck first while they were still unprepared, it failed, but it was obviously the right thing to do instead of just waiting for a stronger and prepared Soviet Union to invade with millions of soldiers.
