I believe multicultural nations are artificial manifestations of globalisation; the ease of travel granted by technology. The drive for consumers allowed by mass immigration.
I believe originally, in a world without technology to bridge the gap of long distances.
Humans lived segregated, into enclaves, whereby they formed unique attributes - and could be identified as distinct peoples based on ethnicity/race or appearance.
Then formed European peoples, Africans, Asians etc.
Furthermore, with this isolation, came the development of separate and distinct cultures/worldviews, religions etc. value systems and ideals.
These communities were I believe practically homogeneous, on a metaphysical level (beliefs) and a physical level (race). Because distance could not allow for a diverse community to form in any large part, simply because we could not cross that gap yet.
But now with globalisation we have, we now threaten the unique homogeneity of diverse groups of people. And we I dare to say, threaten the existence of European culture and ethnicity via demographic replacement.
Globalisation allows for this phenomena and multiculturalism is the state which grows it. We actually justify and acknowledge our dwindling by saying things like 'we're a multicultural society', and 'diversity is inherently good'. Except for when it means ultimately homogenising everyone into a single global culture.
