About children, these aren't really any different than any other person. They're just people in the same right. All of your boo hoos and fee fees don't change a god damn thing.
If I have a mentally retarded child, one that I full well know will never be able to produce a profit for whatever money is invested in keeping him alive, then I'm going to divest from that child. That child is a losing investment, it's one that constantly yields far less than what originally invested, doing nothing but losing me money.
If I know this child will do nothing but produce a loss, then I have no choice, I need to divest. There are only a few ways to do this, the most commonplace is just to euthanize the child. This is me "cutting my losses" and calling it a day. The key point here, is that if I am given the opportunity to sell this child, effectively recouping some of my losses, then this is always the better decision than to simply euthanize the child. Why kill the child myself, when I can sell the child for $5,000 to some hobbyist that enjoys killing or otherwise abusing children. That child is nothing but a loss to me, and if I'm faced with divesting in a manner that yields $0, or divesting in a manner that yields $5,000, there's no reason not to take the $5,000. It's simple logic, and only things like imaginary money and boo hoo fee fees try to provide any counter argument, because people believe in shit like imaginary magical value.
The same goes with any other child. Just like any sports team. If I am in the position where I am the manager, like a mayor, and I have a number of children that are under performing with respect to their "salary" or upkeep cost, then I am now seeking to trade these "players" to another club. What the other club does with them is their business. If I invest $1,000 a month into a child that yields at $1,500, when the mean per 1k is $3,000, then I'm trying to get that child off my payroll and replace him with a better "player".
