I think it is mostly based on local practices. The USA typically had timber in abundant suply, and it is more cost-effective than brick or concrete for most areas.

Most residential construction is block or brick if one isnt a nigger, but yes modern construction is no longer quality, its all about accelerated completion. Places with natural disaster risk have much more stringent building codes.

Even a house made out of the shittiest of wood can last as long as you put even a tiny bit of effort to maintain it. In most environments that amounts to just making sure you don't have any leaking water pipes, or a leaky roof. And even if you can't be bothered to do that, it is cheap to repair even the most catastrophic of damage caused by neglect in this sort of construction.

This. Texas user here. There is a night and day difference between houses built by experienced carpenters and cheap spic labor. Beaners cut alot of corners and it begins to show the more you look around. The old house I lived in, no shit had corners that were 80 degree angles and it was built in 2014.
