For example in 2008 I was laid off by a very famous corporation along with 600 of my coworkers. I went on unemployment for around 90 weeks, effectively it served as startup funding for me to become self employed.
It was available for 99 weeks, but I stopped taking it at some point at the end, but there was emergency funding made available for this to happen.
Back then every bill was not spoiled by strident, irrational open borders bullshit though. So obama didnt try to sneak a bunch of highly controversial unrelated shit through on a bill to help the unemployed. At least I dont think he did, It is possible!

In the 2008 disaster basically everyone was getting laid off. Riding the train home was like thousands of sobbing women. Thousands of them. I guess the difference was restaurants etc. mostly survived 2008. It was businesses that were hit by the freeze of credit.
