I work near the Thames, and you fairly regularly get Chinooks flying up and down it. I live near Sidcup, and in the past week I've heard one fly over here twice, which I've never heard before.

Yes. I'm a night owl who lives by an airport. I am used to small planes flying low late at night with an occasional helicopter. For the past 3-4 weeks there has been more helicopters flying around 2-4am my time.

LA here. I've noticed a lot too, not that helo traffic is rare here. My guess is that it's partly medivacs, partly news getting footage of empty freeways etc., and partly that we're noticing helos more because it's so quiet outside otherwise. What I can't explain as easily is an upswing in military helo traffic, I see random Blackhawks and Chinooks and even Cobras now and then but there have been a lot since this whole thing started.

I also heard a military jet overhead a day or two ago, which is very rare here, but it was low overcast and I couldn't ID it beyond the fact that it clearly had turbojets or low-bypass turbofans rather than the high-bypass turbofans of commercial aircraft.

That's actually normal, that base (Pt. Mugu/Port Hueneme) is one of the main Navy installations on the West Coast and it's where a lot of heavy equipment coming or going across the Pacific is loaded and unloaded. Those tanks were coming home from wherever they were stationed on the other side of the ocean. It happens all the time but you only hear about it when there's some kind of other crisis going on and people are looking for things to freak out about.

Haven't seen anything of the sort in my region. Fixed-wing traffic is way down but that's because airlines canceled a ton of flights and nobody's doing flight training or aerial sightseeing or any of the other typical general aviation stuff. I'm a pilot and have an account on Leidos/WXBrief (FAA flight planning/briefing/weather data site) and don't see anything notable across the country aside from the usual permanent restricted zones like DC and Disneyland.

Ohio fag here, almost never get helicopters flying over that aren’t medical, I’ve been hearing the low flying super loud ones. I think it’s the military cargo choppers. Chinooks or whatever. No clue but I’ve been hearing a lot of them but can never see them because it’s always at night

Seen standard police and single rotor military helicopters (not sure if Hellcat or Merlin model) out and about (I live close to the Excel where the temporary Nightingale hospital will be set up at).

Likely reason is to alert police to any large gatherings so it can be shut down.

It is much easier to control an divided people and then artificially unite them to suit one's own purposes.
This tactic appears to be showing signs of success if tonight is anything to go by.

I live near a Coast Guard base and they have been flying less than usual, but I have noticed some weird choppers lately including a Little Bird with a NOTAR fixture instead of the tail rotor flying around like crazy. It's all black, no markings.

More like 40-50 years ago. NOTAR MD-500s have been on the civil market for decades, several PDs in my area have had them for years. Blacked out NOTAR going in and out of a military base, though, that's pretty spooky.

Good info. My knowledge of the airframe comes from AFSOC Manual 11-1 where basically the CIA was bragging about their "whisper mode" as if you can actually quiet the rotors with some button.

I saw a silver object cross the entire horizon in about 3 seconds during sunset this evening. Was out taking photographs of the sky, and it just shot in a straight line from South to North.
I think the silver was just the sun reflecting off it because it was flying right on the orange'y horizon line, and it was too far in the distance to see in any detail, but fuck me did was it fast. No noise either. Bit of a head scratcher, lads.

I'm not sure but that might refer to "the quiet one" helicopter from 'Nam or some black derivative of it. That was a customized Little Bird with special main and tail rotors, a big muffler, and some other stuff that's still unclear and was used to sneak into North Vietnam to plant wiretaps, wasn't a NOTAR though.

Doesn't explain this that I saw over Fremantle myself the past couple years. Normally they don't do that many practice operations and you'll see an occasional helicopter war practice operation every couple years, but this was nearly a few times a month for a while last year.

I am imagining it could be some sort of GitS like stupidity perhaps, corruption in organisations or simply organisation v organisation.
