Great post user, when answering this question it is important to consider a few things:

1) Number of L1 And L2 speakers, that is those who speak it as a primary/native language and those who speak it as a secondary language. For example English has about 0.5 billion L1 and perhaps ~2 billion L2 at various levels; conversely something like Japanese has about 0.125 billion L1 and perhaps ~0.01 L2.

2) Prevelance around the world. Colonial anguages of English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese are literally spoken on every continent where as Chinese and Hi di have huge numbers in particular regions only.

In my opinion the best languages for the next 10-30 years are:

>Spanish
>Russian
>Chinese
>Arabic

Doubt it. Translating a language is better than it's ever been and the process will only continue to get better with time.

Languages aren't magic and step by step all of the kinks will be ironed out. And we will start seeing less mistakes, more realistic sounding voices, and better translations that are instant.

And yeah, learning anything makes your brain smarter. That's not restricted to languages. You can learn to do anything and get smarter.
