I'm not going to bother repeating the usual Leftist/whatever critique of the West, other than to point you to the stuff on the uniquely shitty conceptions of human life embodied in Roman law and then passed down. Nor am I going to deny that Western culture has its good points. There's a unique and irreplaceable beauty in the Odyssey, Macbeth, the Goldberg variations, Rembrandt's self-portraits, the Laurentian Library, Spinoza's Ethics, coffeehouses, sandwiches.
But here's the thing: if you don't like our culture now, well, you don't like where all that ends up. Our current world is a product, chiefly, of Western culture. All the thinkers and artists you hate were created by Western culture, even if they were reacting against it. You cannot wind back the clock and get a different result. Every criticism you can levy against the contemporary world is a criticism of Western culture.
Whether by your standards or mine, it's a failed project. Let it die. Let us replace it with something better together.
