Meanwhile... Belgium wanted Malaria country. Only the British and Germans got the good parts.
They weren't thinking
>Meanwhile... Belgium wanted Malaria country.
They got stuck with it because their king, acting as a private individual on the international stage, took it over via a corporation ostensibly created as a philanthropic endeavor. Then he turned the Congo from a hellish, endemic warfare slave pit into a slightly worse one. The European powers got outraged at the excesses and intervened. The solution settled upon was Belgium taking over.
Funny thing is that they imported it all over to france.
>What were they thinking?
They had good territories on the slave coast and also Algeria so why not control the territory between them?
At least we made some good coin out of it
>What were they thinking?
They weren't. If you knew the first thing about the European conquest of Africa you'd know that it wasn't the product of some grand strategy, but forced on the various European states by greedy mercants and missionaries on the ground demanding protection, and then each country needing to secure their position against the others. France grabbed the worst parts because they trekked across the desert to grab the Nile but got cucked by the British at Fashoda.
>Belgium wanted Malaria country. Only the British and Germans got the good parts.
Southern Congo was and is by far the most useful part of Africa to possess. Katanga is the most minerally rich part of the planet, absolutely heaving with copper and rare earth minerals. Virtually every single shell fired in the First World War had Congolese copper in it, and the atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki both had Katangan uranium inside. Belgium (King Leopold really) managed to outwit the others by getting the best part. By the 1950s Congo was by far the best part of Africa in terms of healthcare, quality of life and prosperity. It wasn't until a bunch of black soldiers went looting and raping during the mutiny that sparked off the Congo Crisis within days of independence that Congo became the shittest part of the continent. South Rhodesia was a pretty good colony too.
The point is though that nobody really benefited much from Africa. Despite the black coping myth that we 'plundered Africa' the continent was a massive black hole of cash and 90% of the colonies didn't turn a profit. Blacks didn't like working for wages and the tsetse fly made agriculture difficult.
they wanted timbuktu and mansa musa's gold
yeah who needs a desert
Most of those resources were unreachable in the late 1800s. Like, 95% of them. Most of the petroleum wasn't even accessible until like the 1970s.
Strong, plentiful amounts of dumb slaves?
The king should've ruled the Congo through local kings instead, he might have benefited. That was the German policy in German East Africa.
imagine taking a train from cairo to cape town
holy based what british africa could've been
Go be a black history lecturer pls
why didn't they simply wipe out the indigenous like America did....imagine what the world would be like today.
The orange river was a good investment.
The king did and left parliament with all the problems of his initial rule.
Look up Nama and Herero Wars. Only the Germans had the balls to try.
It's not a fucking dessert. The Amazon is there, rainforests, jungles, monkeys, lots of labor. Diamonds and natural resources.
Well, rulers of Algeria had big unrepayable debts to french banks so they have used that as a justification for taking Algeria over. And once they had them they were like "sacre bleu, I ave un idea tres geniale! Why don qui expand dans le sud and see how far can we go?! We ave unique opportunitie to one up that damn nacion of shop keepers honhonhonhonhon!"
>Go be a black history lecturer pls
What's the point. I read about Africa out of interest. I don't expect blacks to listen and there's no way knowledge of their own history would demoralise them. You can't demoralise those incapable of real thought. On the ground though a lot of Africans know that they've fucked up. A British man who was the son of a district officer in Sudan went to the country, and the local old chief said his father had promised him that the British would return if they needed help governing themselves again. He asked him when the Queen would come back.
>The Amazon is there
>Amazon
Uranium mining
> peak muttposting
Yeah, think of all those XIX century nuclear plants.
>literally drive thousands of people into the desert and watch them slowly die
now that's the real final solution
uh, hello? based department? we've got a live one here
>Only the Germans had the balls to try.
It ended up being a massive error actually, since the German settlers were too lazy to do agriculture themselves. It shows how efficient they are though since even to this day the population density in Namibia is incredibly low. They created a desert, and called it peace.
Britain didn't "get the good part". They got a normal part and turned it good because they're the only country capable of making functioning colonies.
What's your interest in Africa rooted in? Africans themselves, or Europeans?
You missed a point, ofc because you're anglo-centered.
Napoleon rushed egypt 80 years before, so we just wanted to control the coasts of africa against piracy and white enslavement by Moors.
Finally it was so empty that we could easily control vast areas.
Less than 100M people in all africa, algeria was only 2 Millions people. We created a farmable strip 200km inside the territory along the coast, hospitals and ofc sandniggers went up to 10M.
That was our error, we better had to kill them all or send them back to middle east.
Giving human rights to apes was a mistake. We had to make like you did in USA and Australia.
sweet. germans were the best, at least they tried.
what, and leave it to subhuman nigger hordes?
Those African amazons are really invaluable.
American education.
This
Algeria alone in the 1950s cost us 20% of our GDP, all of which in pure loss, the sandniggers never turned a single profit
We built Algeria from literally nothing just for them to bomb french children colonists and ruin absolutely everything after independance and go back to being a backwater
We got some bits which were more suitable to white settlement. Kenya's White Highlands, Rhodesia, Cape Coast etc.
>What's your interest in Africa rooted in? Africans themselves, or Europeans?
Both. It's a good way to root your racial hatred and be in awe at the exploits of our recent ancestors who went out into the world and made it their own.
You are completely correct. I was making more of a general point of why France went into the far interior south of the Sahara. French Algeria and the Senegal ports have a very different history.
the portuguese and the british are simply drawn to these foreign enchanted lands, it's in their blood, I have an uncle in Portugal who's a businessman but every year he takes ~3 months from his schedule to go search for diamonds and gold in deep guinea bissau with his band of crazy portuguese lads and africans
>African amazons
It pretty much always was desert. They just set up the Afrika Korps around the waterholes and dehydrated the Nama and Herero after pushing them inland, the rest either kept their heads down and survived or were deported to Shark Island.
well there's oil and mineral ressources in this desert
The orange river was the primary exploit as it was where the Diamonds and Gold was. It funded the expeditions to the habitable parts.
AND I'M PHONE POSTING!!!
The Germans were the best administrators since they engaged in tribal politics and understood who could and couldn't be trusted. Mao Mao was an example of later British incompetence.
>It pretty much always was desert.
Only bits of it. Namibia is a very odd place. It was one of the last places Europeans got to (which is why the Germans got it) because the entire coastline is bound by horrifying desert and fog. It's known as the Skeleton Coast to this very day. There are really only two points along the coast to moor up, namely Luderitz and Walfisch (which the British managed to take). Once you get beyond the desert the interior is mostly rolling hills and brilliant grazing country. The deserts are to the far eastern side of the region where it meets what was then British Bechualand, now Botswana.
The mad German general went beyond his brief causing a shitstorm in the Reichstag and forced the women and children into the Sandveld where they all starved to death. As you say, any survivors were put onto Shark Island where they died and their skulls were sent back to Berlin. It ended up turning the potentially valuable colony into a wasteland without any black labourers. What I meant is that it became a desert in a metaphorical sense. A colony with no subjects.
>The Germans were the best administrators since they engaged in tribal politics
They were considered harsh but fair. Their exploits in the early years in Sudwestafrika are fascinating as fuck, especially their relationship with a man named Hendrik Witbooi, who is one of the only literate men who fought against colonisation efforts. I have Goldblatt's brilliant history of the period on my shelf. Wikipedia really does not make clear just how awesome and fascinating early Namibian history was. The Herero genocide was just the icing on the cake.
Belgium, don't you dare talk about colonization with your Belgian Congo.
Personally, I would've used the Nama against the Herero and made the Nama subjects. Half of the problem was subversive missions.
>I would've used the Nama against the Herero
That was exactly what they tried to do. Leutwein was very adept at it, and is one of Germany's most underrated figures of history. His divide and conquer tactics were perfection. With a tiny force he managed to bind most of the colony relatively peacefully together and prepare it for German settlement without slaughtering the locals. He was undermined by the missions, greedy merchants who kept fucking over the locals and pissing them off etc. which is what started the revolt. His replacement by the military in the form of von Trotha is one of the great tragedies of German history.
Leutwein was however too lenient on the Herero who were themselves using the Nama to try to stake their claims. t. Brit of Prussian German ancestry.
Herero got fucked from us because we told them to stop enslaving other nigger tribes but the herero said no and declared war on us instead then we killed tons of them with actual weapons instead of sticks and stones and now those slaver animals kall it a genocide just because we stopped their slave trade.
Muuh ebul germans.
>Leutwein was however too lenient on the Herero
Nah, that's just what the settlers thought because they were shortsighted and stupid. The Hereros were needed for labour. Leutwein's plan was smart and long-term. Gradually impoverish the Hereros and turn them into labourers for the white settlers. Keep them alive so they can work. Make Sudwestafrika wealthy and embarrass those Bongs who can't manage a colony properly.
>Herero got fucked from us because we told them to stop enslaving other nigger tribes but the herero said no and declared war on us
That is factually incorrect. Also, the Hereros were some of the best fighters in Africa and had rifles. There wasn't much of a slave trade in South West Africa since cattle were far more important. You also seem to be under the impression that I give a shit about moral scruples, when really it's just about the stupidity of wiping out your own labour force. Imagine if we'd rocked up in Kenya and killed 70% of the locals. Who was going to do the weeding and macheteing trees? The use of the term genocide is loaded, but it is probably the most textbook example of it from history. Von Trotha wanted to wipe them out, and even his superiors balked at the idea when it became clear just how far it went. Kaiser Wilhelm wasn't a squeamish guy so it says a lot.
>Muuh ebul germans.
Just short sighted and stupid.
Namibia
I think the main problem with the German colonists is they were upper class and wouldn't work themselves. Had working class tamed the land there wouldn't be such a reliance on the Herero who couldn't be trusted anyway.
I wish we killed all the niggers but at least namibia is the best african area for white people no white hate there like in south africa thanks bongoloids for that.
25% of namibia is german but in africa.
I will move there soon.
It is a great land.
Botswana is better since SWAPO doesn't control it.
You have to remember Africa was considered the dark continent at one time. The reason it was considered the “dark continent“ was because the interior for the most part was unexplored. Only the coastal areas were really explored by Europeans. So when Europeans began gobbling up Africa in the 19 century they had no idea what was there. They knew the basic outline of Africa but not what was in Africa. That’s why large swaths of Westland we’re gobbled up in the empires. Believe me if they knew there was nothing there they would’ve cleaned the territory in the first place.
I meant for german immigrants Botswana is more english area
They weren't upper class. Most of the whites that went to Africa tended to be either those that couldn't hack it at home or chads obsessed with the heroic 19th century vision of going into the wilderness and making it civilised. The same problem happened everywhere in Africa. Whites would turn up and just assume that they could force blacks to work. The problem is that part of the reason why blacks didn't want to work is because they didn't need to work (until we put the conditions in place to make them become wage labourers). In most of Africa it is women that do agricultural work. Most of Africa is bountiful and back then before the place was so overpopulated conditions were perfect for just sitting around doing fuck all for half of the year.
Whites turned up and assumed the locals would want to buy trinkets and need wages to do so. It took decades of measures to make that a reality. The vision of the working class white man taming the African soil is mostly a myth unfortunately. It was a lot of middle class white men setting up shop, having trouble finding workers and then asking the colonial government for assistance. That summarises years of colonial history.
Based Jerryfag.
Namibia is still not worth considering as affirmative action is enforced by the SWAPO Ovambo savages that control it. Botswana is a land of law and order since the Tswana are civilised and respect European administration.
Stop speaking like a nigger.
They certainly weren't working class. The reasonably successful settlement of the Cape Dutch was because they were working class originally.
>The reasonably successful settlement of the Cape Dutch was because they were working class originally.
True, but that was a very unique circumstance. They had centuries to get their shit together in a land that wasn't infested with mosquitos, tsetse fly and blacks.
swapo is against english rule and hate the english but have no problems with us germans.
Germans are like kings in namibia i was there 5 times so far and it is heaven for germans.
Namibia wasn't really either. Though Germans had problems with the Bantu encroachments they would've been easily vanquished by Working Class German Settlers and various Bushmen allies. Perhaps I am being idealistic but I think many lanes weren't explored.
based ethiopia
>into a slightly worse one
yeah man
all those roads and ports and schools and hospitals and plantation jobs and a railroad
terrible stuff
If SWAPO confiscates your holdings don't go crying to Yas Forums. I warned you Namibia has an Anti-White regime and all Whites are Willkommen to Botswana.
Can I go to Botswana and establish a breeding colony for whites?
In my opinion the 20th century German is not the same as the Boer, who has centuries of African experience coursing through his veins. Leutwein knew it. Everyone knew it. A hardy people could not be bred out of nothing. Germany wanted a colony able to pay for itself immediately, not a centuries long colonisation project. It's the same reason why the Hitler dream of spreading Germans into the East would probably have failed. Most Germans do not want to till the soil themselves. The Germans did pretty much crush the Bantus, and it left their colony in a poor state. Decades of benign neglect by the South Africans followed.
Bro, this level of stupidity isn't even worth it even if ur rlly trolling. It just looks sad dude. Fuck ur embarrassing.
Tbqh the anglos left us the scraps. Search for "Fashoda Incident".
