Zoning laws make the land expensive due to subdivision rules.
Building codes make the homes expensive due to silly requirements like auto-shutoff lights and residential sprinkler systems.
Then you've just got the simple fact that site-built homes require materials that have to come from somewhere and have to be assembled by craftsmen who aren't going to work for free. Sometimes I wonder about you people. Have you ever held a job?

Lets be honest. With some happy exceptions, most tenants are scum also. If they weren't, we wouldnt need 'equal opportunity' philosophies.

Tenants expect to be catered to while the rest cost a lot in damages. Add local taxes, and it doesnt even pay to rent unless you own some complex.

Usually tenants simply dont feel any personal pride in the home because its not their property, so theres no sense of long term preservation. They just dont feel an investment. A community does have a moral obligation to see its people have homes, true. The problem is that the whole concept of 'community' has been diversified into being meaningless and essentially outlawed; the federal government has the final say in what a community is.

But its not helpful when a communities moral obligation becomes a lawful mandate. Then you are forever walking the fine line in landlord/tenant law in not being able to, put bluntly, discriminate. Its not a race thing. As a result, it becomes harder and harder to get any return. To get any peace at all, you might have to hire property managers at a pittance for them. and that can be another trap.

Even condos have these problems, and they have ownership. The concept of renting is specific to circumstances. In our legal culture, its been somewhat perverted. I dont think it was ever intended to be a lifestyle or life plan or direction for people born to poverty to just assume they would never own a home. Dont forget, there was a time in this country where even the poorest farmers had land.

Which then gets into the argument of how natural is it for humans to dwell in cities to begin with, seeing as the concept of a city has been so reduced from being a fortress for a community to the simple utilitarian ranching of humans like insects.

My family are landlords and yes we definitely provide the housing, all the maintenance and grounds keeping is done by us at no additional charge to the tenant. We're hundreds of dollars cheaper per month than any nearby houses and even other apartments. We replace appliances for free and if some idiot flushes a football down the toilet we'll fix it, again for free, even at 2am. If a tenant loses their job we've often not charged them rent until they get a new one and we don't even expect let or ask them to pay the missed rent. If a tenant fucks the place up they can just leave when their lease is up, they're under no obligation to live in the shithole they made past that and then we fix whatever holes they put in the walls and whatever else needs doing.

They're quadruplexes that we own and maintain, how do we not provide the housing? What "solution" to this situation would result in everyone having a better situation and actually be feasible? Letting the bank or city take them so they can charge 2x as much, apply fees for maintenance work and even mowing the lawn, or better yet just bulldoze the whole place to make room for some gay section 8 housing for niggers.
