I had the hantavirus back when it first went through the 4 Corners region. Knocked me on my ass for about a day and half, and the after-effects on my lungs lingered for a few weeks, but it wasn't deadly. From what I experienced, hantavirus is nothing to be scared of. It's just another tool in the fear-monger's bag of tricks.

Hanta is very deadly, but you really only get it from fucking rats. Either being exposed to rat shit/piss (like getting it in your mouth) or actually eating rats. It's not a surprise that someone in China gets it. Probably literally eating uncooked rat meat or something.

Hanta in its known forms is deadly, but not very contagious. It, like ebola is really only scary if it mutates and becomes weaker and easier to spread. Both incapacitate and kill too quickly to be good bioweapons.

hanta can develop to that but the spread it's treatable. hanta as it exists in china vs. the hanta family virus in north america don't even cause the same thing. pretty sure ours is spread by deer mice anyway which are not in cities.

Would make sense to have a bioweapons lab out of the city, but not too far from the level 4 biolab you got built using Western help.
