Disciplined ideologicaly pure leaders were able to force it into shape and work temporarily, but the social conditions to sustain socialism were simply not yet in place, they only develop within society after experiencing capitalism for a time, and so when the actual revolutionary generation of its leadership lost power the newer generations started ruining everything.

Real socialists dont. The entire reasoning behind it comes from fundamental flaws in their world view. They have been lead to support socialism through entirely different logical pathways.

The very idea that moment by moment distinct agreements or seemingly agreeable goals somehow makes people comparable is itself in direct contradiction to the principals of dialectical materialism, which does not see things as distinct but rather as a progression of before and afters, of strands of change.

Incongruent lines can intersect but anyone will tell you they will just as quickly diverge, and so anyone advocating 'alliances' has instantly then and there exposed themselves as not coming from a position of dialectical materialism and therefore not coming from a position of scientific socialism.

Making use of temporary 'allies' can be done of course, but not by joining with them, but simply by temporarily supporting them as is beneficial towards the cause. Distinct and firm ideological distancing needs to be kept in place. Ideological merging is a sign that they were never socialist to begin with.
