Landlording exists for same reason loan companies exist. Like there are barriers to multiple currencies that you can transact in, thereby limiting access to money, so can interest be charged to use the monopoly currency . Same thing for rent and landlords, because there are barriers to open spaces that people can occupy and live, thereby people can charge rent for those spaces.

If there were no monopolies on land and capital cash, there could not be interest or rent.

Houses are extremely cheap in actual value. All construction in the US economy, including nonresistential buildings and infrastructure, ALL of it, is only 3% of our labor force.

The main reason that most people want to outlaw renting out property, is because doing so will crush demand, and lower prices. No one will be buying a second home to rent out. Many people who already bought houses to rent, will now be selling since they can't rent anymore. These factors will causes a significant drop in price, likely to the point where building houses won't be profitable anymore. Although obviously, the drop wouldn't be nearly enough to make it so that people renting, could suddenly afford a mortgage.
All you achieve, by banning renting, is making houses cheaper for those who were in the market to buy a house. The cost of this, is ruining the investments of thousands, and making millions of renters homeless. Congrats.

But now, I am an actual home owner in a decent small town with a family. And come to find out, about 1/3 of my neighborhood is owned by two boomers. And guess what. They don't do maintenance so the houses are falling apart (I live in a historic area). They rent to mud-sharks and single mothers so there are bed sheets used for curtains and the yard rarely gets mowed. The mud sharks move in their nigger boys who bring over their pit bulls and let them run outside. I literally have to carry a gun to go for a walk with my kid just in case a stray dog decided to tear her face off. So, with that said. I say fuck kike landlords. Thankfully, the mayor of my town lives right next door and he agrees with me. The township has started condemning many of the houses that they were trying to rent. They are also starting to fine the owners for it. So, there are tons of for sale signs on shitty houses around here. I already suggested to the Mayor to introduce a town bill to make a rental property tax. Meaning, if you own a house/property and it is not your primary residence, then there is separate city tax for that property. If you want to buy the house and rent it in our town, you are going to pay more to the town so we can make improvements and drive our property value up.

You know that value is what people are willing to pay for something, in relation to the supply and demand of a good, so you understand that by artificially limiting supply of available homes to buy, landlords inflate housing prices right?
