It's bad mate. I found the same last year when I had a breakdown due to loads of shit, mostly work. Paid tax, and NI constantly until that point as I've always had some form of work since I was 14. I wasn't expecting to live like a king when I applied for UC but what I got did not help at all and actually made things worse for me in the long run. All I can say is persevere and hope to screw them when you come out the other side of it.
