Honestly, anywhere from 40 up to 60k seems right for the job. Maybe they get good benefits or something but it's not like they need 150k to teach K-12 kids. Professors probably make too much but the college system is fucked up too.

In the US there is a huge disparity in teacher pay and it has nothing to do with skill, value or anything like that it is tied directly to local taxes. Some teachers, the ones in wealthy areas, make good money while others make almost nothing. In terms of total compensation for time worked most teachers at public schools make pretty decent money while some in poor and urban areas make very little. I work for a private school and I make next to nothing so I don't really fit into that mold.
To the question: no, teachers should not be paid more necessarily. Teacher pay should be raised for some areas and some situations but many teachers make a very good living with very good benefits and a lot of time off. The job is stressful and it takes a huge time commitment. It is much more difficult and time consuming than most people realize but there are also perks, big perks.
What teachers need is better training and better onboarding systems (right now they throw you to the wolves and wait to see what happens), and in general just a better education system. I won't go on a rant but the public school system is poorly designed and outdated. It creates unneeded stress for both teachers and students, especially for new teachers.
I know I will catch flak from Yas Forums retards because they are 16-23 and have a very warped sense of education and teachers but that is my opinion as a teacher. Take it as you will.

Many of my teachers in both elementary school and middle school were abusive. I don't hate teachers in general, but those teachers are certainly deserving of hate. The boomers were especially narcissistic and spiteful to young children. My college professors in calculus were much worse than my high school teacher. One of the professors literally wrote as fast as he physically was able.
Teachers are completely fucking unnecessary. Anything that anyone needs to learn is on the internet or in a library for free.

They educate our youth and as such should be held up higher and have a higher barrier of entry this comment is pretty true because noone wants to be a teacher anymore so the teachers we have are awful or ideologically driven. I've substitute taught and have teachers in my family, I can solidly say that teaching is not worth going into. You can make just as much as most teachers cap at in unskilled labor and you don't have work after your shift. I saw a lot of teachers when I was in my entry level positions climbing and they all said it was a better job with higher pay. I know some fags will go on here and meme "muh summers" but my friends wife has a shit load of papers to grade every break they get and has classes to take during their summers. I can solidly say I have more true time off than her and she gets paid only 43k a year. Not to mention my military friends get even more time off than that and get paid more. At least IMO if you want the future of our children to be bright we need to increase requirements and increase pay.

There is research to show that learning from a teacher face to face is more effective than computer based and online learning. I think in the future we will be able to replace most teaching with AI but right now we can't and you're a subnormal if you think you can learn everything you need to know by watching youtube.

On paper the barrier to entry for teaching is already pretty high. I went into teaching from another field and it was much more work to get into teaching than it was my previous career. In practice anyone who is dedicated can get through regardless of skill or knowledge and it is only a bunch of meaningless red tape. The problem isn't barrier of entry though it is a matter of training and guidance to new teachers. Most of the time new teachers are thrown in to their job with no clue what they are doing, no clue how to find out what to do and nobody to help them. They spend the entire day responsible for 20+ kids or tied up in meetings and then spend their nights trying to figure out what they are doing. It is a needlessly inefficient system that was designed over 100 years ago but nobody has bothered to do anything about it. Both teachers and students suffer for this especially since it drives new teachers out of the profession leaving a string of new teachers failing over and over again.
