AR15, Glock 19 or Maverick 88. Personally I'd go with the handgun. First, since it is concealable. Glock and AR are both ~$500, you can build the AR for cheaper, and the 12 gauge is cheapest, ~$250. I'd try a private sale before a gun store, if you can barter you might be able to come up with a fair trade. Otherwise, I'd expect to pay at least a 20-30% markup on whatever you find now, probably more.

Ideal: any high capacity handgun, and any decent high cap semi auto rifle. AR is your best option, but an AK, mini 14, even kel tec rifle is fine.

Alternatively, any cheap pump action 12 or 20 gauge is acceptable but not ideal.

Canik TP9SA. Half the cost of a Glock. Just as accurate and reliable. More features. Bigger mags. Better ergos. Shoots like a damn Cadillac. Every single NATO nation uses 5.56. Modern militaries consider 9mm side arms decorations really. Basically if you are using your side arm in combat you are probably as good as dead. Although that doesn't matter in your house, if you are using a pistol there you are probably fine. But if you need to move around and need accuracy and range, an AR-15 is going to be your best friend.

And what is that reason? Snap-on is the gold standard among mechanics. But why? Plenty of other brands offer tools of equal or even greater quality.
