I think all the aliens stuff is probably not true and was set up as controlled opposition. These men simply seizing upon science, and using it with maximum effectiveness and cold cruelty, seems more plausible to me. Aliens aren't necessary for what we've been seeing, and I guess they could be there, but I've never seen evidence that stands up to scrutiny.
