Video games are popular not because they're fun but because they replicate work

Has anyone else noticed this?

>Coronachan means I have to work from a different place
>have access to a PS4 and Red Dead Redemption 2
>haven't played video games for years
>started it one evening, after 8 hours of working from home (generic office job)
>go through a slow tutorial; feels like a pointless work meeting
>currently being barraged with all sorts of burdensome to keep track of meters
>have to hunt for food
>too many characters to keep track of
>still in tutorial levels but will end up having to keep track of all sorts of counters
>will get more missions than can be done in a sitting

This isn't fun, it's work. But without female managers and HR, so I totally see the appeal. Anybody who completes RDR2 with 100 % or plays Starcraft to a high standard could easily work a high paying job.

Play CoD

no, thats because a lot of AAA games suck dick. they put a ton of bullshit filler to extend the game time but eventually it makes you feel like you're working.

You're a fucking retard, play a different game

CoD? Better QUAKE2 or even 3. Heck, even Doom.

RDR2 was amazing.

>playing RDR2

Found your problem, play something actually fun like Dark Souls 3 or Niph 2

dude this is just new videogames. Traditional video games are pure fun. This is why I don't do RPGs anymore, those actually are like work. I play racing games and first person shooters when I game.

I recently got gamepass and tried playing Fallout New Vegas. I loved fallout3 back in the day. And sure it's a cool game, but something about an RPG when you already work full time, it just makes it pointless. RPGs are great when you're a kid or teenager and have tons of free time because you don't have a job

I mean you don't have to pay attention, just follow marker and go bang bang

Play pantomimes competence in non-play. If you're not having fun with a game, you're playing the wrong game. That doesn't mean switch videogames (though it could), but maybe that you find some other kind of work-simulation gratifying, like sports, or gardening.

You sound like you need something faster. Try 20XX. It's a randomly generated Mega Man X clone, which means your attention is demanded at all times and reflexes are the most valuable. Very light on plot, and has co-op locally and online.

>quick rewards
>no pain
>excitement and conflict with no risk
>freedom to do what you want
It's not work anymore than anything else you choose to do with your free time.

Not that work can't be enjoyable if you have the right coworkers.

CS:GO. Pure unadulterated competition with the only "upgrades" being your own skill and knowledge

you aren't wrong

Attached: 1581164906389.jpg (720x540, 57.4K)

Its micro achievements. I noticed this when video game enthusiast shows anger when you like a certain game but dont like theirs. They get mad because they think their virtual achievement is real.

grindy rpg shit like fallout/red dead/world of warcraft is unironically an unfun work simulator for neets

play something more fun user

I have 74% on RDR2. Can't be bothered to go back and discover all the little birds and tiny rats.

No, it's different from work as it's designed to give you more autonomy, be funner and make you feel more rewarded for your efforts. They are similar that they can both be used to go through the power process but working is less effective because you have little say or freedom in the kind of work you perform.

This is true for any MMO especially if you want to be competitive in endgame content. If you're not logging in every day and keeping up with the never ending hamster wheel you might as well not play.

>RPGs are great when you're a kid or teenager and have tons of free time because you don't have a job
This, I started a New Vegas save a couple weeks ago and didn't care to do much beyond finishing the campaign

Realism isn’t ur thing bud, it’s natural when you get older just play a different setting. LIKE MOUNT AND BLADE 2 COMING IN 7 DAYS ITS HARVESTING SEASON

You literally chose one of the most critically panned games for how much of a chore and slog it is to play. I'm not saying the game itself was panned, people gave it GOTY widely, but even those GOTY explanations included shit about how fucking bad it was because even something as simple as getting off a horse took a fucking 45 second cutscene while saying it was still the best game ever made.

I only play Super Smash Bro's Ultimate right now.
Best fighting game ever.

Cod is the most normie onions fucking game you can come across

They're popular because they're a replacement for what we need and used to get as men.
To be spiritually fulfilled as a man you need 3 things
1. An adventure to be had
2. A battle to fight
3. A beauty to win
Unless you get those things you'll never feel fulfilled, you can fool yourself all you want, but in this society Vidya is basically the only way to get a replacement for those things. In the old days a trek to a new town was an adventure, now it's just measured by time spent in a car, a battle to fight was enlisting in the military or army of the time, or being a vigilante for justice. A beauty to win used to be trying to win the heart of the most beautiful woman in your village, the woman everyone wanted, the woman who wouldn't give herself freely to just any man, she wanted a knight, a man of righteousness who could provide for her and give her children with promising futures. So we strived to be that man, we fucking craved it, now we can get the puss from a different woman on the daily as long as we're okay with a little chub. Times have changed, video games are addictive because they provide a tiny taste of something we crave down in our core.

Depends which games. MMOs are a good example of what you try to explain. The distinction is that they replicate "what work should be" and "on a small timescale". The former means you get actually rewarded for working hard, instead of punished like in the real world. The latter means you play for months to get great benefits, not decades.

Try different things is all I can suggest. There's a large variety out there.

This is true. I go for trophies on ps4 as a sort of goal and achievement. It feels good to work towards a goal and be rewarded in some way, that why I almost exclusively play JRPGs nowadays. I’m also a physician so maybe it is correlated or it’s just German blood lol arbeit macht frei

Dusk and games like it. Get a nice adrenaline charge when you're too exhausted to gym it up

GTA V is the way to go.

>literally Work: The Game

GTAV is utter garbage

Which is perfect because you don't have to spend 4 hours learning systems and mechanics to play the game

I play battlefield 1 online it never gets old because humans are the ultimate competition and you're always encountering different play styles. The WW1 aesthetic is also really well done and highly enjoyable.

completing quests is completely autistic
you're being led around like a fucking animal
you're right, it is a work simulator. total waste of time

That explains why i dont feel like playing vidya after work, even on my days off

How's the feel of being a forced NEET by your government OP? Until the end of the semester half the planet will become NEET. That's some random surprise.
Btw, games developers had being replace from white man to niggas, trans and wamens. So, good game have being hard to come by in the last few years. I don't even recall if you still can rope that old feminist and feed her to the alligator's or not. Great meme btw.

Attached: 2lzdmu.jpg (780x439, 41.2K)

This is one of the most retardedly normie things I've read about video games.

I am trying to go pro at smash. I won a tournament a few weeks ago.

>GTAV is utter garbage
I hated how they changed the driving physics from that of 4

They don't replicate work, they replicate achievement.
They give people that small temporary feeling of actually achieving something when they manage to complete levels and tasks given to them.
This is why game achievements are such a massive thing about them. It's all about a reward system for achieving something completely imaginary. It's deceptive and dangerous as fuck.

This games, and everything else, as work metaphor has become fashionable among a certain type of liberal pedant.
If you're doing any activity you can call it "work", and if you call it "labour" instead then bam, you're oppressed.
Emotional labor, simulated labor. Shitting is work, you're forced to spend time clearing refuse into a receptacle, congrats your sanitation work means you can claim workers' solidarity with janitors and garbage men.

Alternatively, you can stop torturing the definition of every single word in the dictionary until it becomes vague enough to cover all of reality.

Well yeah, because they're about creating a sense of achievement. Your own life is boring & pointless, so you spend some time pretending to be someone else. That's literally the whole premise.

>live in world where sub120iq people are at best given unnecessary work and at worst given no work at all
>Wow why is this simulator of a time in the world where even retards could chop wood for material & social rewards so popular
It's a question that answers itself

Attached: pepefroggie.jpg (800x450, 39.57K)

Nice, congrats user

vidya is for the bugman

I can see how game that have a lot of grind could be compared to work. But just like the real world, if you have $$$ you don't have to grind as much.

Yes, it gives useless men a sense of completion and purpose. It IS work, that's why it's so addictive, the games themselves even tell you you're a GUDGOI for beating it/them.

Warzone is also free. Peak comfy

someone's grumpy.. kek
want a snack, honey?

That’s why i still play L4d2. No nosense, just fun and action

Maybe it's not about fun, it's a work simulator after all. When you play an MMO, you'll get that "promotion" or "bonus" more quickly than one ever would in real life. You get that shiny gear to show off with and if you're persistent enough you'll get all of that eventually.

But you cannot get fired, you won't lose your position due to a competitor. It's work without the real risks.

Not everything has to be edgy all the time Nigel.

Masturbating is work

full of retarded plebs

memeflags are for the fagman

Quake 2 is still one of my favorite shooters of all time.

i step on bugs

>all games rely on a sense of completion
Low IQ opinion shared by people who only play those kinds of games. People who only play competitive shooters think that the point of games is competing. People who only play gambling games think that gambling is the point. For me games are like traveling, it's just an experience. Do you go to Rome to tick off your checklist or do you go to Rome to have a unique experience and feel alive?

play the total war series
that game really makes your brain release pleasure chemicals

nioh is the most grindy bullshit ever

>oh cool just 2000 more levels ago fighting the same yokai ive seen 10,000 times so i can get +0.25% chance to get something i dont need to get an upgrade that will be irrelevant

It's all that without risk or consequence. Which is why games are onions.

The difference between a video game and work is a story line. That's why I never understood people who played minecraft or indie games with no story. Your basically an amazon warehouse employee if you play a video game with no story and I don't understand how your brain works.

That's extermination work and you're rewarded with less bugs in your house so you really only do it for the simulated sense of accomplishment because you're so brainwashed by capital.

faggot

>going to Rome

Never again, all the feral cats and niggers/arabs disgust me.

>a massive thing about them. It's all about a reward system for achieving something completely imaginary. It's deceptive and dangerous as fuck.
Damn, son. I think I need to reevaluate my life now.

You make up your own story you pleb. Just like when you're traveling in real life, you make the story as things organically happen around you.

>but because they replicate work
you're retarded and British

Attached: really2.png (301x301, 104.96K)

Your dick tells you you did a good job?

We really are just trained soldiers. Cant wait to op my roboniggerkiller5000 in China.

I hope every gamer in this thread is under 18.
When you turn 18, put down the controller and grow the fuck up. Do something productive.

I do it so there are less bugs

Play f.e.a.r or something you fucking retard.
If you have a cheapo pc you can play ut

Try Doom instead

Stop being a damn Pussy. There are plenty of games around for every character and mood. And it also shows a weak will if you feel forced by x-sidequests or any blinking shit on the minimap.
RDR 2 is especially comfy when you full cowboy and just ride into the nature. Enough to eat, you can sleep under the open sky and only get into action when you want.

>muh WW1 aesthetic
>even though it still plays like modern war games

Play Verdun, brainlets

Doom eternal is not work

DEATH fucking STRANDING omg why do so many out themselves over this game, it's a delivery game LIKE EUROTRUCK, why do so many people have to get brainlet filtered by that concept. Also has Corona mailman vibes.

I loved rdr2. I hadn’t really played video games since I was a kid, but I was unemployed a year ago and had time/money, so I bought an Xbox. Now I’ve like 20+ games and I’m waiting on ms flight simulator and cuphead dlc. I still acknowledge that games are a time sink, but I thoroughly enjoy how realistic many of them are getting. These giant open worlds are something that I imagined would one day come when I first played gta 3

We don’t like work?

like being on the board and posting in a thread about video games you mong ?

That is called orgasm

work is when you contribute to your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of your people.

what we call "work" is actually slavery.

Games give a sense of accomplishment which is pleasing. Additionally, by playing a game diligently you often advance, in wealth, power, technology, development and so on. You cannot get that same sense of progression in the modern job environment.

don't mind me. just checking these digits

Digits don’t lie. They’re impartial to feels

Attached: 6392E61B-AD3E-4037-969E-DF949EC800E3.png (159x161, 20.71K)

I’ve playing Dota 2 (great time to start for those of you who don’t) and it doesn’t feel like work at all. The best approximation to a real life activity would be that it feels like playing sports.

Kojima is an interesting person. He seems to basically be a self-hating Japanese who wishes he was one of the woke (((white))) Hollywood celebrities.

Is this bait?
>Grow the fuck up
I work for RTN, and most people in the IIS field still game quite a bit, and most are part of the glorious pc master race because we grew up, and made enough expendable income to spend on high powered rigs. Never two old to have an outlet. Gaming isn't all I do with my life, but it's a great thing to have. Get off your high horse there, bud.

THIS

this is simply what it's like to grow up and become an adult. the quarantine is a coincidence

>Enjoys the realism of games
>Likes the giant open worlds
>Buys CupHead

right so then there is no reason to play a video game because you can make up a story for whatever you do. The reason I play video games is because someone else already took care of the story for me.
Does it have a story?

I can't wait for that new flight simulator, its coming out on xbox one as well which works great for me because I'll never have a computer that can play it. I'm going to hook up a joystick to my xbox and put it on a table in front of my TV.

youtube.com/watch?v=BTETsm79D3A

jews

>Starcraft

My nigga

>not because they're fun but because they replicate work
so work can't be fun?

The difference between a video game and a job is that the video game gives you a worthwhile reward.

asians are built for BBC

somebody hurry up and get the digits so i can get off this gay website

Doom Eternal will ruin every other FPS for the next five years at least

Attached: C64C9150-BC18-42CE-A779-2BB7FCEDE94A.jpg (750x716, 82.31K)

this, there's nothing like conquering subhumans and bringing civilization to the world in a campaign

I think definitely there are themes of how shit and corrupt whiteywest r tho. Like he doesn't completely suck the West dick.. despite how idol worshipping his work is.

best games are:
euro truck driver 2
euro train driver 2
euro taxi driver 2
euro factory line assembler 2
euro body disposal 2
euro hospital disinfector 2
euro prostitute 2
euro euro euro 2

Are you so dumb you cant play a video game meant for children?

Attached: 1580506152533.gif (200x200, 786.51K)

Wrong. Videogames repliace work that has MEANING. Not just work for the sake of work.

No, that's just AAA games and MMOs/Korean games because they want to make the actual game a slog to try and convince you to spend money on microtransactions so you can skip the boring shit.

Just finished it last night. Fucking great ride. Will do again. Didn't unlock the Unmaker because I kind of just wanted to get to the end, but I'll get it next time.

Again, play Death Stranding!

No no, it speaks to you with words like your games do?

This. Play older games, that's what I do.
