I'm a landlord and I've given an extension on most of my tenants payments. I'm not some rich guy, just a regular Joe tryna make it during these tough times.

yeah i think there is a lot of confusion about what people mean when they talk about predatory renting. i've rented from people that had an extra house or two to their name that were extremely reasonable and accommodating. i never thought for even a second about stiffing that type of landlord. right now i rent from a company that owns property all over the state and routinely forgets to pay utilities that are in their name, to the point that my water and heat are shut off every month for non payment and i have to call to tell them to pay the bills with the money i give them. they won't get a cent from me this month.

I could just as easily sit on the property as housing values go up and turn a healthy profit and not deal with the maintenance or deal with tenants.

that's an issue with the banks too though. until the way we purchase real estate is fixed there are going to be people that can't get a house but need somewhere to live. there are people that don't have the skills to maintain a home on their own, or have no family, etc.. we don't want them to become wards of the state and live in govt housing. landlords fill a couple niches, but they are not natural ones, just symptoms of our broken social system.

i am against the idea of rental income in principle but there are ways that it is less toxic than other aspects of our economy right now depending on the landlord in specific. in a perfect world homes would be affordable and easily acquired for everyone that wants one. we don't live in that world yet.

He's offered to help us anyway he can, while making it clear that we have to pay at least sometime during the month it is due. I think that's pretty based considering how every tenant signed a lease agreement stating they would pay on a certain day.

landlording and rentals are fine, but I don't think they should be mortgage eligible. If you want to buy a property to rent, needs to be in cash. eliminates the fucked up Jewish feedback loop we have going on now in housing.

All you have to do is tax the shit out of capital gains on home sales and raise property tax on all property that isn't your primary residence until being a private landlord no longer turns a profit.

Then you take the proceeds, fund the stupid fucking UBI, watch home values plummet, and see everyone afford homes, which is when high iq people will pair off and have kids, saving western civilization.
