Brf cakes are a pain and super slow. For the same time and energy you’re better off with a simple bulk substrate divided into a bunch of “shoe boxes” it reduces the chances of contamination in all the tubs.
As for contamination, there is a balance to be struck between pasteurized and sterile. If you sterilize you’re substrate you almost guarantee contamination. You need a certain number of microbes, other fungi etc to keep nasty stuff from growing.
Also if you get contamination, separate that tub and keep it going if you can till you get fruit. Then clone them, and continue to do so. After a few generations you will have a contamination resistant strain! For theory only! I would never do this in real life, that’s illegal!
