That's not true. Every hospital system I know of (Presbyterian, Montefiore, Northwell) is going out of their way to keep the work force together. If you even get tested or have any symptoms it's 2 weeks paid off. Confirmed is 4 weeks paid. Hazard pay isn't coming through yet because it might set off a chain of events we can't control. But desertion is a growing fear in all departments across pretty much every sector of vital systems for NY.

It takes an average of 3 weeks to die from this shit.

Brother is MD at Johns Hopkins. Girlfriend’s sister is a nurse in NYC. Both are really scared and on edge waiting for the surge to hit in the next 7-10 days. Lack of PPE is a big concern for medical workers. Lack of ventilators too (can’t these be 3D printed?) Both hospitals converted into makeshift covid wards. Both my brother and gf’s sister think the number of actual cases is either 10:1 or 20:1 untested:confirmed. Number of infections correlates to testing capacity.

80% have it rough. 20% need hospitalization. That's a massive number. IE, 1 in 5 ( realistically 1/10) will die if everyone got it at the same time and hospitals weren't a thing. As for ages it's across the board. But even if you are in the 80% , you aren't getting back into the work force productively for 4 weeks or more, even if they said sick people can work.

I'm a registered nurse in Queens and everything is optimal. Just got new shipments of n95 face masks and a gown. Younger patients are all recovering at optimal speed but the old timers are still struggling. Cuomo really came through for us and his service to the people of New York won't be forgotten. Also was told that they're pushing nurses in clinical through so they can work because of how many patients there are. My hospital has low census right now because ALL elective surgeries have stopped. There are several rule outside that will most likely be positive. It is taking us 10 to 14 days to get results back.

In February I had 2 days of a pretty high fever and headache then about 6-8 hours of no symptoms then the fever and headache came back for another day, I'd say it was in my top 5 as far as flu goes, then I got the same symptoms only much milder last week, still got a cough but I'm back at work.
