US Postal user

Posted earlier, I'll be around to reply this time before it gets sudoku'd by CCP and huwite boy shills.

Got an update on the Chinese virus protocols.

1) "You think the Post Office is stopping? We're not stopping."

2) Too many critical items are shipped for us to stop, we're increasing parcel handling capacity. CCAs were out til 830pm Sunday night and they're looking at going 7 days for everyone. This is at a station with full staffing and miraculously no call-ins lately.

3) No hand sanitizer available, we're getting donations from some of the closed public schools and we're working with local micro distilleries to acquire ethanol/sanitizer. Of course hand-washing is better, but we're out of the office 6+ hours so we get by with what we have.

4) We are cleaning every vehicle every day before we start, steering wheels, door handles, any touch surfaces.

5) We did get a letter authorizing us to travel past checkpoints, curfews, mandatory quarantines, etc. as "mission critical" employees. No inside info if or when it will happen, seemed to be more in response to local/state government actions.

6) They've established procedures regarding what to do if one of the carriers in our station get it, who gets quarantined, etc. If more than, half of our station is brought down, the mail isn't stopping, they'll just move us to another building.

For what it's worth, we'll be out there for you guys. Will update if anything else noteworthy comes up.

Some earlier questions:

>If I'm a recovered, immune Chad can I get some work with you guys?
Yes, we lose about 50% of each training class because it's a lot harder than people believe. Everything goes by seniority so the junior guys get beat to shit for anywhere from several months to several years and a lot of people just say fuck that noise. Once you make regular and bid on a route, life gets infinitely better.

>Whats the point, the virus is already in the mail system.
Probably true, we're believing the notion that it won't survive on a mail piece in the mail stream long enough to give us Super Bat AIDS. As far as outgoing pieces we collect directly from customers...umm...best not think about that.

>A week ago I spoke with a postal worker who said they had been given no protection or precautions. Has that changed?
Largely so. I ganked a thing of clorox wipes and hand sanitizer from the bosses a few weeks back, the PO is a bureaucracy and won't crack a fart without someone signing off on it, so they're only taking CDC guidance, posting notices, and doing what is required to avoid legal liability for negligence or creating a hazardous workplace. This week they are taking it seriously, nitrile gloves are plentiful and masks are available on request but nobody is wearing one. We have a couple of assholes who are sick and coughing nonstop but insist it isn't corona and won't stay home because they're greedy for money.

To those who said thanks, you're welcome. It really makes a difference to know customers appreciate it. Rain, sleet, and dark of night is fine but deadly pandemic isn't what I signed up for lol, it's depressing knowing potential Bat AIDS awaits, but I guess this is what duty is, putting on the big-boy pants and doing the job.

Your grandpa will get his beetus meds, you'll get your 50lb bag of dog food, and Karen will get her organic aloe vera from Amazon so she can make her own sanitizer. I promise.

bump for being a probable real thread

curiosity bump

if you're not larping, thanks for the thread.
my gf relies heavily on the post office for her business, and while numbers across marketplaces are dropping to an extent already, the thing really keeping her up at night is the idea that USPS will slow down or even grind to a halt.

I'm 100% legit. Parcel volume today was heavy, dps (regular mail) was light for a Monday, I believe a lot of businesses aren't sending out ads due to closure and ones who are open are saving their money. Flats (magazines and catalogs) were light. Nobody subscribes to Rolling Stone Magazine anymore.

No mail for three days in central Cali

usa and the Italy at fault.
-american flu lives at 100000+
-america army at Wuhan
-great china economy now.
-we link supply countries europe no thanks.
-china solved American flu.

Why is the responsibility of the world because of bases American not looked at for spread virus?

>Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds

God speed user. Good health be upon you.

For your gf's peace of mind, as far as I know there is zero chance of us closing. Only a direct order from Trump could make it happen and they told us before if operations were forced to close, we'd be the last ones to leave and the first ones back.

There is days worth of mail and parcels in the mailstream already, if they were to stop us, they'd have to stop incoming mail and close the retail counters first and let what's in the system pass through before they let me stop as a street-level carrier. It would fuck Amazon royally and FedEx/UPS couldn't absorb our volume.

If USPS closes, it's truly the end times.

ESL monkey

Is now a good time to try and get a job at the post office, UPS or FedEx? Seems like they'd be hiring their ass off right now and I've needed a job for months.

Persia was awesome.

Upser here. It’s only a matter of time before I get this shit

UPS or FedEx will hire anyone right now for warehouse work

>No hand sanitizer available
plenty at my office

>We are cleaning every vehicle every day before we start, steering wheels, door handles, any touch surfaces.
lol no one does that

>CCAs were out til 830pm Sunday night
hasnt happened to me since December

be back by 6

Bump.
Postal user here as well. Can verify OPs post.
I don’t carry mail anymore but I travel to lots of post offices daily. The procedures and conditions he has outlined are mostly the same in my Area offices with a few exceptions. I also got my checkpoint instructions today.

Bump for the hustle

>I believe a lot of businesses aren't sending out ads due to closure and ones who are open are saving their money.

shit, i only have 4 bundles of redplum for my entire route tomorrow. ususally its at least 6. makes sense, probably not much in it

Is Post Office a good job outside of this hell period? I already know a lot about Postal Specs (I so a lot of Presorting work and am Mail Piece Design Certified)

I want to change careers without losing all this fucking worthless knowledge I already have. It would probably be for a Post Office in the Suburbs of a major midwest city.

my postman doesn't even wear a mask desu
brave

Based, thank you for your service unironically

Work for post up here in Canada, can confirm everything were doing is the same with the exception of cleaning vehicles. I just spray mine down with 70% alcohol every morning.

God speed user.

>Is Post Office a good job outside of this hell period?

i can honestly say i dont hate my job. pay is decent and there really isnt much of a learning curve. bascially its going for an 8 hour walk every day (unless you have a mounted route), can be nice at times

> CHING CHONG CHANG

Another postal user here. All verified, and the crazy "YOU ARE EXEMPT FROM LOCKDOWNS, SHOW YOUR BADGE! IF COP IS PIG, CALL HR"

They're constantly hiring due to the crazy attrition rate.

Yeah, they literally stopped our morning stand-up talk and sent everyone out who hadn't already done it. The custodians made spray bottles with whatever in it and gave us big rolls of paper towels.

Station manager asked me before I left today if I wanted to work my day off (yellow-Thursday), and I'm not an OTDL or anything. If they don't get volunteers we're expecting mandates.

can i get that in english please?

Thanks for your hard work user! Stay safe and God bless you

I work at a P&DC, we're fucked. Chinky-pox lives on plastic for 3+ days. All that shit going around and around and around. Tubs and trays.

Hang in there mail bros. We're getting absolutely rekt at UPS.

Fuck off, you're going to get nuked.

I might consider it. I make like $25/hr now and sitting at a computer for 95% of my day is killing me. Even if I remember to get up and walk/stretch I still have swollen fluidy legs from sitting all day, plus I gained a ton of weight

they did away with our morning break which is somewhat annoying since i like to have a cigarette outside during that time. other than that really nothing at my office has changed. mail does seem a little lighter lately. 1.3k dps today but thats typical for a monday

Look, I realize you're a low IQ public servant who flunked out of toll-booth school to become a mailman, but quit being such a faggot and listening to the media/politicians when they are so obviously spouting alarmist propaganda.
youtube.com/watch?v=RlxrccYb7XM

either chinese shills are real or some strange user is sitting alone in the dark typing broken english for literally no productive reason at all. what a time to be alive.

>Laid off a bunch of good people after peak.
>Now we have peak volume again
> Have to hire a bunch of new blueberries who aren’t experienced warehouse workers since our starting pay is shit compared to FedEx and Amazon
It’s all so tiresome

Heros.

I work middle management in a communications company. Today I was given paperwork to prove I am required to go to work in the near-term event there is a full lockdown.

nice job, I work in a warehouse for a furniture company which has somehow found a loophole to deem us as essential employees.

i'll be out there for you, making sure you can get a new couch when you realize how shitty yours is during quarantine.

its great exercise. youll start out as a cca at 17something an hour and youll be working crazy hours in that position. 50 cent raise every 6 months and i believe 35 an hour is max. i usually get around 1.8k a paycheck give or take but im still at the low pay tier

15 yo brainlet who is happy to be out of school so he isn't picked on

I did 4 years in Automation back in the early 00s. After 9/11, and then the anthrax thing their solution was to turn off the fans in the building. It got up over 100 degrees back on the machines and weaponized anthrax didn't need a fan if the mail was moving at 40k pieces per hour. After 4 years of being a ptf, they told my group that we'd be ptfs for another 3-6 years because flat sorter regular jobs were being abolished. I changed crafts right after that, best move I ever made.

As far as the vehicle cleaning goes, there was a stand up talk that came down from DC about that. If your managers aren't instructing you to do that, they're liable.
OP has some basic info correct. DPS has fallen a bit but not necessarily out of season. We were having problems with the FSS machines (a glitch has recently been patched) do you'll get a heavy day for third class flats this week but it won't be anything too out of the ordinary.
The SOP for signatures has changed, hope you've gotten the memo.
Passports are by appointment only for the time being. But there are currently no plans to close retail offices. BMEU units are currently in full swing but that could change if customer volume drops significantly due to individual states enacting their own shutdown policies.
Parcels have and will continue to increase in the coming weeks but we're not expecting volumes comparable to peak.
For those interested, we always need CCAs and PSEs. If you have a license and a clean driving record please apply. With the number of boomers we have working for us there's a good chance corona-chan will thin the numbers.
I'll also answer questions as I'm working from home and have a lot of free time.
T. USPS OPS Dept.

Best of luck user. I mean it, my wife is a mail lady.

>$1.8k paycheck

Wait a minute, I only take home $1450 every 2 weeks @ 25/hr

Hello fellow civil servant. I work in water. We are also not shutting down. Business as usual, except that we've shifted our plant operators and reservoir keepers and pipe crews to being half on, half off so that if one crew gets coronachan they can go off and the other team can come in to take over.

It is a crazy time. Will keep the water and sewage flowing though.

Thank you OP and all fellow mailfags. I sell magic cards as a side hustle and you guys make it possible. Lots of late and missing mail this last month or so, but it’s to be expected. Keep up the good work.

>US Postal user
The only Constitutionally mandated government agency is best agency.

Wartime authority powers for the Post Master General NAO.

My building is too small for an FSS. We have two AFSM-100s.

We’ve got a guy getting tested Wednesday. Our building has no idea what to do, what will happen if an employee tests positive.

>we're increasing parcel handling capacity. CCAs were out til 830pm Sunday night
Used to be an RCA. Glad I'm not anymore. Then again, RCAs are the TP of the USPS.

>selling magic cards right now
enjoy your chargebacks shortly when parents realize their stimulus check went towards cardboard

I also flip pokemon cards, but theres no way I'd be sending anything out right now.

like i said, crazy hours. i dont think ive ever worked less than 40 a week since i started. days usually are 10 or 11 hours long, although some days are a bit shorter. typically get a day off every 8 days or so. the hours add up to some decent paychecks. im only a year in

Thank you based USPS workers

i am here for the heart man

I would bet on the postmaster general's army of mailmen vs the surgeon general's army of surgeons any day.

Fellow postal user here, moving from being a rural carrier to a mail processing clerk this week.
As long as the mail keeps running, things will have a sense of normalcy, I hope.
But like OP said, we'll get yer shit to ya.

The glitch didn't impact you then. FSS has a bar-zip issue that prevented it from distinguishing between city and rural routes for offices that serviced more than one zip code. It basically only affected level 18, 20 and 21 offices. Many carriers will get a fuck load of FSS for their route sometime this week.

I feel bad ordering to from amazon and having usos deliver it but i need mah tp

you guys are really doing a public service and deserve more recognition, not bs like shutting ysps down

I work in a small 3 route rural office as PTF carrier, our volume has actually felt lower than usual since the woogaloo. If we didn't have all this census crap going out I'd have only had 1 tray of raw mail a couple of days last week. Packages haven't been bad either.
