I recently lost my job and have been working in a supermarket for the past week. I've noticed some extremely odd behaviour by chinese people over the past couple of that i would like your input on. The local university a few weeks ago closed it's doors and advised all students to return home until things get better. So, you would think if you were a young asian from an affluent background (which they are, tuition fees for students abroad are extortionate), you would be headed on the first flight back home. But they're still here. Many of them. Now i've noticed roughly one or two times an hour, various chinese females will come over to the important aisles (TP, pasta, bread) and take NUMEROUS photos of the aisle. The strange thing about it is they aren't taking photos of the aisles when they're empty, but when they're full. They will also speak into their phones for a short while giving some sort of voice message or type for a bit. This process takes one or two minutes. So to me i can only assume they're notifying someone, or a group of people.
I want your help in reaching an explanation for this. Personally i'm starting to wonder if they're "daigous" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daigou". They are aware that they can only purchase a few of these items at a time, so possibly they are clubbing together online in groups and notifying each other that the hand sanitiser is now in stock so they can each come in over the next couple of hours to pick it up. I presume the reason for this is to sell them at a profit and pool the cash.
So what do you think? Or am i reading too much into this?
