Pandemics come in waves. If they come off of lockdown too soon, cases will ramp back up. It takes a while for lockdowns to begin working in terms of daily new cases due to the incubation period.

I actually think their real case numbers are far higher, as many will never be tested.

I think when hospitals get overwhelmed, is when you get near the peak.

This is good and bad; bad in that you'll have many deaths, but good in that it's not as bad as we thought.

I think Germany is showing what happens when you test a whole heap of cases, and even they would be missing many.

Most people will be infected, the hope is that not everyone will get sick at once. If everyone gets sick at once, then there won't be enough medical staff or supplies to treat everyone effectively, leading to additional people dying needlessly.
