I think most people agree that there is no tip for just bribing the food and drink you paid for. But if they are keeping the table clear, packing up leftovers for you, refilling your drinks, carrying additional orders to the kitchen and back, then that deserves some consideration.

I always tip the same amount flat. Usually around $5. Why should I give you more money when the cook does the hard work? A $15 meal and a $100 meal take just as much effort to take to my table and set down in front of me. Tipping in general is unnecessary, but tipping on a percentage is just cucked.

yes, but even at a shitty roadside joint, a decent waiter will have ~10 tables in his section. If he runs 30 tops a shift, even a bunch of boomers tipping 10% against an average 40$ meal will get him 120$ on a 4 - 6 hour shift. That's 30 bucks a fucking hour above and beyond reduced wage.

If you're a server at a higher quality place, you can walk out of a shift with more money than a fucking engineer makes in a week.
