best version I've read is the KJV. I hear Orthodox study versions are good as well. A huge issue people have with the KJV is the term "Judeans," meaning people living in Judea, is just "Jews." This isn't inaccurate as all people living in Judea were called Jews, but a lot of new readers think that means they all practice Judaism. The truth is Judaism did not exist yet, and "Jews" back than could either mean >Worshiper of God or >Judean. So two terms are used for one word in the KJV and leads to anti-Christian posters sharing verses like John 4:22 to try and label the bible as pro-Judaism, even though the verse actually means salvation comes out of Judea. Jesus isn't saying in John 4:22 that salvation comes from worshiping people who practice Judaism, but he's telling the woman HE is the savior standing before her.
