Grew up a Roman Catholic, have begun to despise the beraucracy and the current Pope.
I've been looking into Eastern Orthodoxy, and they seem to understand the reason religion is needed in the West.
Trying to stay away from Protestantism, because it ends up being a bunch of non-believing fags who don't have any self-restriction. They just end up justifying their behavior by having their "own interpretaion" of the Scripture.

I'm catholic myself and I also think orthodox is the most based way of christianity, however I would never convert to orthodoxy because every family member I have and every family member from who I have heard is catholic so I would feel like I have betrayed my ancestors by randomly changing religion. I have started to just ignore the shit that comes from the Vatican and go to church and pray without thinking about the heresy of the catholic institution, basically focusing only on what matters: the real catholic culture

It's a game of finding a denomination that has high birthrates (indicator of spiritual/physical health) and how comfy they are. Amish have the highest birth rates but aren't very comfy. Mormons have slightly less kids but are very comfy etc. etc.

Non denominational. I too grew up Catholic but after reading the bible I realized a lot of Catholic doctrine wasn't biblical. All that matters is that you believe in Christ and in so believing your sins are paid for and you are saved. My advice is to get into the Word, follow Christ's commandments as best that you can and try to keep politics out of Christian doctrine

Orthodoxy/Catholicism is absolutely the truth. The philosophy is some of the best in the word and benefits from nearly two thousand years of the greatest thinkers to ever live. Protestantism is the religion of the ego. There are great, devout, wonderful Protestant people, but ideas like “once saved always saved” are terrifyingly heretical and self-serving. The biggest flaw of the Catholic Church, to my reckoning, is exactly as you state: the way the church drags through the mud of authority and is slow to change traditions (endorsing NFP is contradictory with claiming contraception is a sin, for example, as both allow for God’s intervention and claiming God can’t do so is wrong).

I was almost in the exact same place you were 3 years ago as an ‘atheist’ coming back to the faith, because I thought it had some worldly benefits or something. It turns out that religion is so much more than that; more than birth rates, a stable country, a tight-knit community, and lovely family. It (Orthodox Christianity) is the Truth, or it’s the closest we can or have gotten to the Truth. I would like to think that I would still abide by it even if it were stripped from all its worldly rewards, which is surprisingly the exact opposite of why I initially delved into it.
I was a rigid guy before and after I went into it and was worried that I would have to compromise or flat-out reject science, logic, mathematics, empiricism, and many other pursuits that I thought were exclusively ‘skeptical,’ but it turned out to be the exact opposite. These ‘skeptical’ categories of thought were all harmonized in a beautiful, incredible way that is unmistakably the Truth, and it is truly all thanks to God; the God of here, after, below, and above that we are able to live in a coherent, intelligible world at all.
This below shit is good, but it seems pretty esoteric and weird at first, but trust me. It’s not, taking away parts of your personality and intellect. It’s adding on to it and putting your thoughts into perspective.
