It's because we've been playing the same games for 20 years just with "better graphics" and more things on the screen at once. Game mechanic programming has barely changed in 30 years, DOOM Eternal could have came out 15 years ago and had the same exact gameplay, the sooner we move toward neural networks in games instead of finite state machines the better.
