I don't know...my dad bought a hotplate when he has a perfectly good stove at home for some reason. I asked him why and he said it spreads heat more evenly. He doesn't even cook anything except fried eggs sometimes.

Why do people just buy a new lawnmower when the old one just needs basic maintenance?
I have a 10 year old troybuilt pushmower I used commercially for 8 years. I have an hour meter on it and have over 1500 hours on it. Nothing but carb cleaning, spark plugs, oil, filters and the occasional small but like replacing the fuel cap when the air breather stopped working. Simple machines.
9/10 its just a gummed up carb.
It does run a bit rough.

I hear all the arguments in this thread for doing your own maintenance,and that is all well and good if you make less than a small engine mechanic, but if, like me, you make multiples more than a small engine mechanic, it real doesn’t make sense other than to buy a new lawnmower every spring and sell the old one for cheap. Also, small engines ain’t what they used to be, they are planned to fail now. I am actually to the point actuarially where I will not even change a spark plug or air filter on a small engine which might take me an hour in prep and parts and cleanup Vs just ordering a new one on amazon. I am making last year ~230000. One hour of my time is worth more than a lawnmower. Don’t get me wrong, I love that stuff and have all the skills from harder times and youth, but when you look at it monetarily after a certain point, it doesn’t make sense. If you picked up a non functioning mower on Craigslist free, it was probably someone like me.

Actually small engines are very easy to work on and quite serviceable, unless you royally fuck up and it seizes on you or some shit, the chinks are producing sub 500cc bikes by the millions, and these things see conditions unspeakable.

And it isn't about the time or money, I find fixing my own shit quite therapeutic, and would hate to give or throw away something that can be fixed or restored to working order.

the engines are usually the last thing to fail if they aren't run without oil. decks, wheels, and drive components are usually why mowers get thrown out.
